I have so far shown you all kinds of Google maps mashups... earthquakes, wikipedia entries and orbiting satellites.
Well make your own! It is VERY easy. You can get students to document excursions, world events - anything - this is only limited by your imagination. Add audio, images or video - your own or someone elses via flickr or youtube. I think my year 10 geography project (as a student) on the Russia steppes or the wheat-sheep belt may have been a bit more exciting if I could have used these tools.
